4. Dining Experience
The dining experience at Salamander Middleburg is centered around Harrimans Virginia Piedmont Grill, the resort's signature restaurant, which has also received a Forbes Five-Star rating.
- Harrimans Grill: This restaurant focuses on locally sourced, seasonal ingredients, offering bold and flavorful dishes with regional influences. It serves breakfast, dinner, and a "sumptuous Sunday brunch." While some guests find the food "pretty good" and the service "fine," a few have noted that entrees do not include sides and prices can be high. The dining room features panoramic views of the culinary gardens and Blue Ridge Mountains.
- Gold Cup Wine Bar: This bar offers internationally inspired small plates, a sushi menu on weekends, and hosts weekly wine seminars featuring local Virginia vintners.

Even in situations where bars might be understaffed, bartenders are noted for trying hard to provide great service. The resort aims to make guests feel "treated like a queen" and ensures a peaceful and rejuvenating stay.
6. Location & Accessibility
Salamander Middleburg is strategically located on 340 acres in Middleburg, Virginia, a charming and historic town in the heart of the state's horse and wine country.
- Proximity: It's approximately 90 minutes from Washington, D.C. and about an hour's drive from Washington Dulles International Airport (DCA).
- Local Attractions: The resort is surrounded by sprawling vineyards and wineries (over 50 within an hour's drive) and close to boutique shops, fine restaurants, and antiquities in Middleburg. The area is known for its equestrian culture and events.
- Accessibility: The resort offers complimentary Wi-Fi and valet parking (though a fee may apply). Accessibility features include elevators, wheelchair-accessible paths, handrails, and visual fire alarms. A Lexus chauffeur service is available within a 5-mile radius to explore Middleburg. While Tesla chargers are available, some guests have noted a lack of non-Tesla EV chargers or adapters and a potential lack of information regarding nearby public charging stations.
7. Value & Pricing
Salamander Middleburg is a luxury property, and its pricing reflects this. Room rates can average around $929, but can range from approximately $459 to over $1,100 depending on the season and day of the week, with Saturdays typically being the most expensive and March and February offering cheaper rates. While some past guests have questioned the value at higher price points, comparing basic rooms to suites at chain hotels and noting additional costs for amenities, many current reviews emphasize the "exceptional value for money" considering the "unparalleled level of opulence and service." The Michelin One Key designation itself signifies a "very special stay" that offers "significantly more value than other similarly priced options." Virtuoso travelers can receive perks such as upgrades, daily breakfast credit, and a resort credit, enhancing the value.
8. Common Complaints
While overwhelmingly positive, some recurring issues or criticisms have been noted by guests:
- Dining Pricing and Inclusions: A few guests have expressed that dinner entrees at Harrimans do not include sides and that overall dining can be overpriced.
- Drink Quality: There have been isolated comments regarding the quality of certain cocktails, such as Manhattans.
- EV Charging for Non-Tesla Vehicles: The absence of non-Tesla EV chargers or adapters and the lack of proactive information about nearby public charging options have been minor points of frustration for some EV owners.
- Pool Renovation: Guests should be aware of a seasonal pool renovation from October 2024 through late Summer 2025, though the resort aims to minimize disruption.
- Past Staffing/Management Issues (Employer Reviews): It's worth noting that some employer reviews (not direct guest reviews) have mentioned past issues with management, high staff turnover, and a fast-paced or competitive work environment. However, recent employer reviews also indicate improvements with new management and better benefits. Guest reviews, however, consistently praise the staff and service.

I booked a trip for my mom’s 65th birthday and planned to spend all day in the spa. This was the best spa getaway experience. I had a 90min massage with Nemat. I’ve had alot of massages in my life and this was the best one I’ve ever experienced. It was the perfect balance of therapeutic without being painful and yet relaxing and enjoyable. This place is amazing. It is clean, has a ton of amenities, and feels extremely welcoming. The biggest factor for the 5 star review is their commitment to guest satisfaction. There was a bit of a mix up with scheduling spa services (part my fault, part theirs) they worked with us for a very satisfactory end result. Even more impressive, I accidentally booked a day later than intended but they move...

I can't say enough good things about the service in this hotel. We had my daughter's wedding there in October. From day one of planning, the hotel was very accommodating and wonderful to deal with. Every employee would take ownership of anything you asked. All of our guests commented on how beautiful the hotel and grounds were, but they were even more impressed by the customer service. I loved my solo retreat here in early- mid December. Gorgeous rooms and Christmas decore, delicious food and a good spa were just the peace I needed. The small town of Middle burger offered speciality shop and a Christmas town atmosphere. It can be pricey but worth an semi annual or annual return.
