Michelin Guide Southwest 2026: Where to Stay

The first Michelin Guide Southwest is not evenly distributed across Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico, and Utah. It is a highly concentrated travel map: Las Vegas holds every regional star except one, Greater Phoenix accounts for 18 of Arizona's 19 selections, and Santa Fe contains 10 of New Mexico's 12.

Fine Hotels Guide analyzed all 64 restaurant addresses in the official 2026 selection, classified each restaurant by state, city, and distinction, and then checked which Las Vegas addresses explicitly name a hotel, casino, or resort. The result is more useful for trip planning than the announcement alone.

The clearest hotel finding is this: four of the five starred restaurants are inside Las Vegas resorts, and 14 of the city's 24 total selections are in hotel or casino properties. Michelin's Southwest debut is therefore both a regional restaurant guide and, in Las Vegas, a practical resort-dining guide.

Michelin Southwest 2026 by state and distinction

The selection contains five starred restaurants, 18 Bib Gourmands, and 41 Recommended restaurants. "Five starred restaurants" is a count of establishments, not stars: Restaurant de Joël Robuchon received Two Stars, while four restaurants received One Star.

Chart source and method: Fine Hotels Guide counted the 64 restaurants in Michelin's published selection and assigned each state from its listed address. Percentages are each state's total divided by 64. Starred counts represent restaurants, not the number of stars awarded.

Two patterns stand out. First, Nevada received 37.5% of all selections and four of the five starred restaurants. Second, 41 of 64 restaurants, or 64.1%, entered at the Recommended level. Another 28.1% are Bib Gourmands, leaving only 7.8% of the list in the starred category. For most Southwest travelers, the guide is primarily a curated regional dining list, not a list of trophy tasting menus.

That distinction is particularly important in Arizona and New Mexico. Neither state received a star, but together they account for 31 of the 64 selected restaurants, nearly half of the entire guide. Reading only the star headlines hides most of the new coverage.

The guide is regional in name but urban in practice

The four-state label suggests a broad road-trip map. The published addresses show a more concentrated reality.

Arizona's only selection outside Greater Phoenix is Atria in Flagstaff. New Mexico's two restaurants outside Santa Fe are both in the Albuquerque area: Frontier and Campo at Los Poblanos. Utah's other three selections are in Park City. Nevada's entire restaurant selection is in Las Vegas, even though Michelin's highlighted hotel list extends north to Lake Tahoe.

This makes the guide easier to use than a literal four-state route might imply. A traveler does not need to cross each state to sample its Michelin selections. The useful bases are Las Vegas, Phoenix or Scottsdale, Santa Fe with an Albuquerque add-on, and Salt Lake City with Park City as a second cluster.

Las Vegas is where Michelin Stars meet resort hotels

The official Las Vegas tourism guide confirms 24 city selections. Four are starred:

• Restaurant de Joël Robuchon, Two Stars, at MGM Grand.
• L'Atelier de Joël Robuchon, One Star, at MGM Grand.
• é by José Andrés, One Star, at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.
• Guy Savoy, One Star, at Caesars Palace.

That means 100% of Las Vegas's starred restaurants are in resorts, and four of the Southwest's five starred restaurants are resort-based. The fifth, Monte in South Salt Lake, operates inside Beehive Distilling rather than a hotel.

The resort relationship extends below the starred tier. We counted a Las Vegas restaurant as hotel- or casino-based only when the official address explicitly named the property. By that conservative rule, 14 of 24 selections, or 58.3%, are inside a hotel or casino. The group includes China Poblano at The Cosmopolitan, Bouchon, Cote, Estiatorio Milos and Mott 32 at The Venetian complex, Gymkhana at ARIA, Michael Mina at Bellagio, Ping Pang Pong at Gold Coast, Stubborn Seed at Resorts World, and Wing Lei at Wynn, in addition to the four starred restaurants.

The other 10 selections prove the guide is not simply a Strip resort directory. Restaurants such as Esther's Kitchen, Kabuto, Kame Omakase, Partage, Sparrow + Wolf, and YEN Viet Kitchen sit outside the large resort properties. A well-planned Las Vegas stay can therefore combine elevators-to-dinner convenience with neighborhood dining.

Fontainebleau Las Vegas, a One Michelin Key hotel, hosted the August 26 ceremony. Hosting does not confer a restaurant distinction, and a restaurant Star does not rate the hotel around it. Michelin Stars evaluate cooking; Michelin Keys evaluate the stay.

Michelin's four highlighted hotels do not mirror the dining map

Michelin's announcement called out one hotel in each state: Edgewood Tahoe in Nevada, Under Canvas Grand Canyon in Arizona, Los Poblanos Historic Inn & Organic Farm in New Mexico, and Amangiri in Utah.

Those properties illustrate the range of Michelin's hotel collection, but three of the four are not practical bases for the main restaurant clusters.

Los Poblanos is the exceptional pairing. Campo appears in the Recommended restaurant list at the same address as the Two Key hotel, creating an on-property combination of a Michelin-rated stay and Michelin-selected dining. Among the four hotels Michelin highlighted in the launch announcement, it is the only one with a restaurant in the new 64-place selection.

Edgewood Tahoe and Amangiri remain destination hotels, but travelers should not book either expecting easy access to this year's selected restaurant clusters. Under Canvas Grand Canyon works naturally with the national park and can connect to Atria in Flagstaff, but the bulk of Arizona's guide is several hours south in Greater Phoenix.

Arizona: 19 selections, almost all in Greater Phoenix

Arizona received seven Bib Gourmands and 12 Recommended restaurants. The absence of a star dominated local headlines, but the more practical result is a 19-restaurant list with a strong value tier. Bib Gourmands make up 36.8% of Arizona's selections, compared with only 12.5% in Nevada.

Phoenix holds 13 selections, Scottsdale has four, and Paradise Valley has one. That makes a Phoenix or Scottsdale hotel the logical base. The selection spans famous names such as Pizzeria Bianco and FnB alongside places including Huarachis Taqueria, kid sister, Lom Wong, Bacanora, Fry Bread House, and Latha.

Arizona's debut therefore works best as a metro dining trip, not a statewide resort circuit. A Grand Canyon stay can still be added, but it should be treated as a separate landscape segment.

New Mexico: Santa Fe dominates, Albuquerque has the hotel link

New Mexico received five Bib Gourmands and seven Recommended restaurants. Ten of those 12 are in Santa Fe. Albuquerque and neighboring Los Ranchos de Albuquerque account for the other two.

Santa Fe's concentration supports a dedicated stay rather than a rushed day trip. Its selections include Jambo Cafe, La Choza, Paper Dosa, Tia Sophia's, Arroyo Vino, Izanami, Joseph's Culinary Pub, Market Steer, Paloma, and Restaurant Martin.

Albuquerque offers fewer selections, but the hotel relationship is stronger. Frontier received a Bib Gourmand, while Campo at Los Poblanos is Recommended. Travelers who value an integrated hotel and restaurant experience get the cleanest pairing in the entire four-state guide at Los Poblanos.

The New Mexico Tourism Department's Michelin overview also clarifies the inspection process: destination marketing organizations support the guide's launch, but Michelin says they do not choose restaurants or influence distinctions. Inspectors visit anonymously and apply the same five cooking criteria across destinations.

Utah: one star, two distinct hotel strategies

Utah's nine selections divide neatly between the Salt Lake metro and Park City. Six are in Salt Lake City, South Salt Lake, or West Valley City. Three Recommended restaurants, Handle, Matilda, and The Nelson Cottage by High West, are in Park City.

Monte gives the Salt Lake metro the state's first Michelin Star. Feldman's Deli, One More Noodle House, and Phở 777 received Bib Gourmands. Koyote and Star of India complete the metro list at the Recommended level. The official Visit Salt Lake announcement confirms the nine restaurants and their cities.

Travelers can choose a city stay for Monte and the Bib Gourmands, or a Park City resort stay for three Recommended restaurants within the mountain destination. Amangiri belongs to a different southern Utah journey. It is the state's highest-rated Michelin hotel at Three Keys, but it is not a convenient dining base for the inaugural restaurant selection.

How to plan the trip from the data

For maximum star density, book Las Vegas. Four starred restaurants are distributed across MGM Grand, The Cosmopolitan, and Caesars Palace, and most can be reached without leaving the resort corridor. Visit Las Vegas advises that starred restaurants generally release reservations 30 to 60 days ahead.

For the broadest Arizona sampling, stay in Phoenix or Scottsdale. For New Mexico, give Santa Fe its own stay, then add Albuquerque if Campo at Los Poblanos and Frontier are priorities. For Utah, choose Salt Lake City for the only star or Park City for a resort-led trip with three Recommended restaurants.

The inaugural guide's real travel lesson is not that the Southwest suddenly has five starred restaurants. It is that Michelin created four compact dining hubs with very different hotel relationships. Las Vegas integrates the restaurants into resorts, Greater Phoenix offers the largest non-starred cluster, Santa Fe dominates New Mexico, and Los Poblanos provides the region's clearest Michelin hotel-and-restaurant pairing.
